Prof. Dr. Yasser Hatata, President of Fayoum University, accompanied by Dr. Ahmed Gheith, Lecturer in the Hotel Studies Department and Director of the International Cooperation Office, attended the signing ceremony of several protocols and agreements at the Grand Celebration Hall of Cairo University. The event aimed to enhance joint cooperation between Egypt and France, in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron, Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and French Minister of Higher Education Philippe Baptiste, as part of the Egyptian-French Universities Forum.
The ceremony was attended by French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier, presidents of Egyptian and French universities, higher education leaders from both countries, council secretaries, heads of research centers and institutes, representatives of French companies operating in Egypt, and a group of senior media professionals and journalists at the Grand Meeting Hall of Cairo University.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron for their support, which has been a cornerstone in achieving qualitative development in bilateral cooperation across various fields, especially higher education and scientific research.
The University President expressed pride in participating in this distinguished international event, noting that France is a strategic partner for Egypt in its development journey.
During the forum, successful models of cooperation between Egypt and France were highlighted, including the re-establishment of the French University in Egypt (UFE), which offers internationally recognized French degrees. The Egyptian leadership supports the development of a new campus expected to accommodate 3,000 students by 2027. Academic programs have also been expanded to meet labor market needs in fields such as cybersecurity and environmental sustainability.
The forum also spotlighted the Sorbonne Law School in Cairo, celebrating 35 years since its establishment and contributing to strengthening legal ties between the two countries. Additionally, the Hubert Curien–Imhotep partnership, launched in 2005 to support scientific cooperation between Egypt and France, was highlighted. Over 200 joint research projects have been funded to date.
The forum witnessed the signing of 42 cooperation agreements and protocols between 13 Egyptian and 22 French universities, offering 70 programs to meet future job demands, including 30 dual-degree programs. These agreements aim to enhance academic and research cooperation, community service, training, and academic activities through joint curriculum development, coordination of educational activities, and facilitating student and faculty exchanges.
A discussion session was held on the sidelines to showcase real-world examples of academic and research partnerships between Egypt and France. Participants highlighted the benefits of studying at French universities, including fostering critical thinking, creativity, and out-of-the-box thinking. They also praised the human aspects of the experience, such as strengthening friendships, promoting societal improvement, and upholding freedom of expression, which opens new horizons for exploration and research.
